Stories of Remarkable People
Who Have Left Bequests to AFBIU
A Generous Funder of Research to End Prostate Cancer
If ever there was a couple devoted to each other, it was Florence and Bernie Kalb.
The late Florence and Bernie Kalb
They had been married for some sixty years when Bernie passed away, and although stricken with grief, Florence was determined to continue the mission that they had pursued together: an unerring support of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Indeed, her surviving years were dedicated to creating a legacy that would reflect their lifelong love.
Florence had a razor sharp mind with a passion for literature and politics and an exacting attention to detail. This alone could have made her a formidable personality — but just when you least expected it, her delightful sense of humor would suddenly open and her warm and loving spirit would come shining through.
Indeed, had she been born a generation later, she could have led any endeavor to great success.
It was through her marvelous bequest to Bar-Ilan University, in Bernie's name, that Florence will forever be remembered. "There is only one place in Israel where I can help brilliant professors find a cure for prostate cancer while providing every student with a solid Jewish background — Bar-Ilan University."
