CENTERS FOR ISRAEL

Improving the quality of life in ISRAEL
MAKING AN INDELIBLE IMPRINT ON THE FABRIC OF SOCIETY
Since its inception, Bar-Ilan University has been involved in almost every aspect of Israel’s daily life as an academic and research institute. In keeping with this spirit, Bar-Ilan provides youth on the periphery with immediate access to higher education in their residential areas as a means of reducing social gaps in Israel. It has established five branches of community centers throughout the country covering the Jordan Valley, Safed, Western Galilee, Ashkelon and Ariel. Students centers, in many cases, transitioned into colleges providing academic studies in conjunction with Bar-Ilan, offering a BA.

In addition, Bar-Ilan University assists its students and the surrounding communities with support and intervention at reduced cost or totally free of charge. It now provides on-campus psychological counseling through its Psychology Clinic, legal support involving the school’s Faculty of Law at the Legal Clinic and free eye care at the Optometry Clinic managed by the Department of Optometry.

These clinics serve as training sites for students in their respective departments. In fact, interning in these clinics is mandatory for students specializing in these fields. By working in these clinics and servicing the larger communities, students are instilled with a strong sense of social responsibility.

“In my dissertation I attempt to highlight the interplay between Halacha and the prohibition of visiting the Temple Mount and the legal issues to promote a peaceful resolution of Jerusalem.”
