JESSELSON INSTITUTE

FOR ADVANCED TORAH STUDY

BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY
Judaism is more than an intellectual pursuit
BEIT MIDRASH (KOLLEL)
FOR MEN
The Institute is a model of merging the best of both worlds. Founded 35 years ago, its Beit Midrash program for men offers a high level, intense Torah Study curriculum. Students in the Beit Midrash program delve into texts through chavruta (paired) learning and shiurim. Aspiring rabbis train for the Israel Chief Rabbinate exams under the Halacha program. Doctoral Fellows publish in specific Talmudic areas through the PhD program.

The Institute’s Reishit program gives students lacking a religious background the opportunity to engage in intensive Jewish studies within a framework designed to meet their needs.

By actively encouraging the integration of Torah with worldly occupations, the Institute has helped graduates gain the knowledge, training and commitment they need to become prominent leaders in the Israeli government, hi-tech industry, the Rabbinate, and fields such as business, academia, education, law, and Mishpat Ivri (Jewish law).

STRENGTHENING
JEWISH IDENTITY
Stumped by a religious question? “Ask the Rabbi” is a free service offering answers to your questions through the Institute’s Rakowitz Center for the Community Rabbinate in Israel. And for the less initiated, an innovative approach to outreach is offered through the Johanne and Norman Sternthal Reishit Program. It imbues secular students with a deeper appreciation of Judaism through study of the Bible, Talmud and Jewish philosophy. At Bar-Ilan University, the Jesselson Institute embraces Torah study at every level.

At Bar-Ilan, it is an approach to life that involves caring and concern for others. Through its Jewish Studies Faculty, the university gives high priority to fostering Jewish education and leadership around the world, as well as to the needs of the Jewish residents of Israel.
