Dear Friends,

I am a 4th year medical student at Bar-Ilan’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine. Along with hundreds of thousands of other Israelis, I have been called up to reserve duty where I serve as a deputy commander of a medical squad unit on the border with Gaza. Our squad is made up of doctors, paramedics, and medics, as well as a Zaka unit that deals with the tragic fallen soldiers. We are one of 8 units that are currently serving on the southern front.

Our mission is to treat soldiers who have been injured in the battle in Gaza and vacate them from the battlefield to hospitals around Israel via ambulance or helicopter. We are currently stationed in the settlements that surround Gaza waiting to be called to action. Although we hope and pray that our casualties will be limited, we are preparing to treat over 1,000 injured soldiers – and to save as many of their lives as possible.

At Bar-Ilan we have been trained on one of the most up to date pieces of equipment which isn’t yet mainstreamed in either medical treatment or education: handheld ultrasound machines. We have been taught how incredibly powerful this machine can be in the diagnosis and treatment of critical trauma patients and we desperately want to bring it to the fields of combat to use in triaging injured soldiers. The devices cost $3,000.00 each.

WE KNOW THIS WILL SAVE LIVES.

There is a long and difficult road ahead; and we want to be as prepared as we can. Please help us purchase 200 handheld ultrasound machines which can make the difference in whether our injured soldiers live or die.

Shimon
